Hello x

I’ve been doing new things with my life. Many years ago I used to renovate properties. I lost my confidence with it all. I became complacent. It’s done a full circle as I’ve found peace with it once more. I’m being daring and colourful – deciding to give back life to tired walls and abandoned pieces of furniture. I’ve found vintage frames to splash my photography around.

I’ve also been baking from my Nan’s old cookbook. You can’t beat the days of hand whisks and plastic pudding bowls.

I haven’t got the internet or an android phone.  I do have YouTube on my TV. There’s a balance that I struggle to find. I am an all or nothing person. I wish I could just pop online for an hour and catch up with friends but that hour rolls on to an entire day.

I’ve been writing my book. It began with a dullness but I’ve dug a little deeper and found many short tales within stories about my past. It’s allowed me to let go of a lot of pain – also rekindle my wicked sense of humour.

I just wanted to pop online and say hello. Have a lovely week. Love is Everything. I think each of us have our passions bubbling below the surface. These gifts are able to connect us with the bigger picture, where we find peace. It’s beautiful.

Oh I forgot to say. I’m doing some new meetups for women in crisis around the UK next year. Happy ones, to aid your creativity, we can do this together. Don’t forget to write everything down. The happy stuff, dark, deep, macabre or pointless. All of your words have meaning. Stay focused on your journey, for you are magnificent!

ps I’ve been writing poetry too. Thanks to The Lonely Author and Amitav (my inspiring friends.) I am going to put some of them online in a few weeks. Hello to Ann Masters too. My lovely online pal. We shall catch-up soon. I will send you some pictures of my new world. I love everyone!

Why Loathe the Daily Mirror Animal Hero Awards in conjunction with the RSPCA?!

The Daily Mirror Animal Hero Awards takes place on September 7th. I personally think it’s a cruel ceremony that highlights the more prolific groups and individuals, many already in the public eye.

I’ve been involved with various causes and campaigns for an excess of thirty years. I spend much time with rescuers and animals in need of new homes. I’d say more than 50% of smaller rescues aren’t ‘significantly’ online, they’ve limited resources. The majority of sincere animal lovers and campaigners would struggle to vote for a ‘favourite.’ If any awards ceremony should take place – it should be to elevate smaller rescues. To raise awareness for the people who need it most. There’s causes that have forsaken their homes to shelter animals in need of care.

However the Daily Mirror Animal Hero Awards sponsored by multi-million empire the RSPCA (who allegedly give only 15% of profits back to the animals) are once again bringing together a host of people to bask in the limelight. Surely the expense of this would be better spent on elevating and supporting smaller rescues?

Don’t get me wrong, the show will move people to tears with carefully prepared, compassionate footage and heart-felt speeches but how will it help the animals in need of our care? A dog, cat, rabbit, ferret and so on … no matter what cause or charity represents the animals, is no more or less according to a trophy.

It’s all wrong. It’s not sincere and I assume many of the votes are by people who are in it to win it. I don’t think the general public are that interesting at all. I believe that this type of high end bash should be for only one thing, to help the causes who are struggling the most. The non-profit – no kill charities and causes.  Virtually anyone can set up a charity these days and claim a high wage from the profits. Not to mention super imposed marketing budgets, pushing the more sincere causes farther behind.  I’m dismayed with it all. It should be all about the animals who need help most, not big fake smiles and fancy handbags.

Osha, a very brave dog and Todd’s Welfare Society by Tiffany Belle Harper

I met my friend ‘Romana’ today from ‘Todd’s Welfare Society.’ There’s hundreds upon hundreds of fabulous rescues around the world. Sometimes we get it wrong but not very often. We have to take blind leaps otherwise animal rescue would never progress. Rescues rely on volunteers both on and off line.

In the case of Todd’s Welfare Society I am truly over-whelmed by their story. Such a sincere devoted small team of volunteers in Lahore – Pakistan.

wnI’ve done various volunteer work in my life time – to include over the years, helping my friend Andrea with Wetnose Animal Aid with social media, creating videos, visiting rescues, taking photographs, setting up blogs, fundraising, visiting events and consistent interactions. I really enjoy it and I’ve travelled for much of the country to visit centres and make new friends. Yet I’ve never fully backed one particular rescue.

That is until now. I really want to get behind Todd’s Welfare Society. (So I hope you will support me …) I was moved by an image of a dog named ‘Osha’ who was hit in the face with an axe by a butcher as she went to his back door to try to find food. She was starving. It must have broken her heart. She nearly died but she was rescued by Todd’s Welfare Society. I cannot say where she is now, but she is as safe as she can be.

There’s more news on it too but I will divulge this later on. Todd’s Welfare Society are going to raise funds for their very own sanctuary in Lahore. In stages and will be relying on public donations. I am going to get behind this. All of the donations are non-profit. Meaning that nobody in the organisation gets paid a penny. Every single amount goes directly to the sanctuary and current foster homing of the cats and dogs. Romana herself being in receipt of animals rescued from Lahore.

I would never work with a charity or cause without first meeting up with a member or members of that team. Subsequently digging deeper, observing, asking questions. With experience toddsyou just know when you’ve discovered a gem. I really have. I hope to visit Lahore, soon.

So really this blog is to just get my friends used to hearing about Todd’s Welfare Society as I will be bringing lots more news and also helping Romana with a blog and whatever else I can do. I’d like to thank Romana for lunch today and daughter for being so lovely. I feel like part of your family already Romana! Humble, kind, people who sincerely love animals as much as me. We even had a few tears together whilst discussing the cats and dogs. Osha’s tale in particular resonated with me as I once was hit in the face and head. I nearly lost my life at the end of 2009. Animal or person there is no difference with acts of violence. Not to me anyway. Cruelty is cruelty. Many animal abusers go on to hurt children and women, in particular.

When I saw a photo of Osha, I just knew this was a start of a new journey. That I had to do more. It’s my new passion and I feel at home. It will be nice to feel appreciated for what I can offer and reciprocate that back to these wonderful people. They work simply and humbly giving their full attention and donations directly to the street cats and dogs that are in need of welfare protection.

Animal work can be very lonely for me sometimes and I often feel frustrated that I can’t do more. So I suppose the answer to that is getting out there on the ground, no matter where that takes me. Being on Twitter etc, you rely on re-tweets and that’s so damaging for self confidence at times. There seems to be a pecking order. No smaller rescues should feel that wrath.

Once upon a time, there was disease, poverty, hardship. Also art, decadent armoury, flamboyant decor, regal definition. Nothing much has changed apart from we don’t support our local craftsman to such a degree. Myths, legends, turmoil and battle. Passion lost in today’s consumerism and digital era. History re-told ‘the best unspoken’ … nobody knows the truth … That’s what makes fairy tales. To rescue a Princess, the Knight oh gallant. Or so we are told. It’s lovely to sneak back in time. Artefect, tradition, heritage. Not just here but globally. Let no man destroy it.

Family Break #blissful such darlings

My beautiful family. I treasure them. I really do. The little one ‘Abi’ told me she wants a blog to put her photography on. That she’d prefer to take photographs than go to school. I see parts of myself in both the girls. I wish I could spend more time with them but when we do hook up, it’s fun all the way. I am hoping to take them on holiday next year. It’s hard not to spoil them rotten but their mum (quite rightfully) has brought them up to enjoy nature and the simple things.

They lost their grandma earlier this year. There’s still this huge gap but memories remain and I am sure she watches down on all of us. I suppose I’ve sort of stepped in. I feel so hugely protective of them. Going to do Abi a little blog to put her pictures on soon. Then each time we meet we can add more. Over the years she will have a fabulous little portfolio. And Gracie has started to do decoupage (like me) so I have bought her a book about it. This is something I cannot wait to participate with. Aunty Tiffy xxx
