Petition to Ban the Use of Horses in Bullfighting #GuestBlog #AnimalRights

It is shocking that in the modern world the barbaric sport of bullfighting is still considered “entertainment.”

Thankfully, many people no longer see it that way and as a result the industry is slowly dying. Yet worldwide approximately 250,000 bulls are killed every year in bullfights.

Last year, Madrid dealt a huge blow to the industry by ending the $66,000 subsidy that fueled a matador school, Marical Lalanda Academy.

More recently, Colombia moved to bring back bullfighting for the first time in four years, but thanks to massive protests it was decided that the sport may violate laws regarding the mistreatment of animals.

Unfortunately, even though the times are changing bullfighting still happens, and although most understand the suffering a bull endures in this cruel gladiatorial sport, many are unaware of what the…

Charity Begins at Home – Are Tweeters the new Establishment and do they play God?

Well, I am sitting in the hairdresser’s getting my hair done. I’ve a colour on and being pampered, yet my mind is totally elsewhere. I really am quite disappointed with so many things right now.

Donald Trump is doing some very naughty things. I don’t particularly dislike him as he is a non-conformist and eccentric. Two attributes I find fascinating. Yet … he is making decisions that will make people suffer. We need peace and commitment to tackle the real issues in our world. Not a bloody wall! This is no super inflated LEGO game Mr Trump!

I am also so very angry about the ego on Twitter. I do have to use the platform to share animal causes close to my heart. Each time, I hit resistance, as there is a pecking order that for years I have complained about – where, whatever sector, be it human rights, animal rights or politics, people group together, becoming ignorant towards smaller campaigners. I am also aware of gossiping, back-stabbing and area based snobbery where many feel excluded from social circles. It’s wrong and it is spiteful. It is about ALL of the UK where social media campaigning for smaller causes and independent volunteers are concerned!

To the handful of Twitter accounts dominating the animal welfare platform:-

Hear the people who ‘currently’ have no voice. Please try to share news of the many volunteers doing wonderful things in addition to the world causes you currently address that of course need attention.

WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER SURELY! I think it’s really rude and detrimental to animal welfare to ignore these pleas. It takes seconds to re-tweet a bulletin.

I used to write for media and get paid but I have had to make sacrifices as it’s tiresome and time consuming, not to mention pathetically competitive. Yet it seems I have to find other portals to raise my concerns regarding the power ‘some’ celebrities and higher Twitter profiles have and abuse. They behave like Gods determining what is best news for their followers and have no training in these fields whatsoever. I never thought I would see the day when film makers, authors and artists were given so much authority – not mention an appalling over flow of hidden agenda.

harmless

There’s also people with Twitter accounts that have enormous followings – grouping together with the same heir-achy sharing only one another’s news. This pushes away grass roots. There’s a big gap in the middle that is leaving campaigners feeling down trodden and very frustrated, to include myself at times.

Not everyone needs or wants to be famous or glorified with an ‘us and them approach.’ So I urge those in higher public presence to be a bit more down to earth and less obsessed with popularity. Give others a chance – delegate and share. It’s about making this world we all live in a better place.

I do believe to a certain extent ‘charity’ begins at home and until we can form our own groups and communities in our own towns, villages and cities there is no unity. It’s not about sitting on our bums all day pressing buttons. It’s about getting involved and setting good examples for the next generation.

Sharing all that we are as a nation together. We’ve got to stop fighting one another and do more together. It’s not such a big effort to get out there and visit some of the causes that need our help. To take a few photographs or write a blog. To do something, anything but certainly not to solely use social media for all the wrong reasons. Good deeds with good intent have a knock on effect.

The UK is NOT all about London. We need to show others that we are united up and down the country. To also help our friends across the pond who feel alone and helpless with the same circumstances.

We need equality and fairness.

All animals are worthy of our support. Nobody should feel left behind and ‘sadly’ that’s what ego is best at. Alienation and power. It’s not good enough! If it doesn’t stop soon my next step will be to name and shame. I’d do anything to break this loop of the same people repeating the same cycle day in day out. There’s room for everyone.

The Road to Freedom – #DogBus Project – Dogs, Cats and animals facing death in shelters UK.

The DogBus Project founded by Kristyn Adams is an appeal to raise funds for its first pet transportation that can hold over 10 crates that will transport healthy animals from kill shelters around the UK to safety. The DogBus can also be used for general hire by ALL rescues and pet transportation services in the UK. Please take a couple of precious minutes to read this full article. WE NEED YOU!

The DogBus will save time – fuel and most importantly the lives of animals. I am going to be trustee to the charity that is currently in its early stages.

Kristyn Adams has built a reputable reputation in the animal welfare and rescue circuits, covering many years of commitment to rescue as a volunteer. Kristyn drives up and down the country using her own car assisting rescues with pick ups and drop offs. She also helps re-home primarily dogs and is a volunteer for a local dog charity in Coventry.

In addition, she is training with St John’s Ambulance and gives her time freely to help with first aid too.

It is Kristyn’s goal to achieve the full funds for the first vehicle and as time grows to create a fleet of van’s to assist rescues and rescuers/transporters, all over the UK.

Any funds left-over will be held within the balance for future expense i.e. fuel, upkeep and the next van for the project. A small hire cost may be charged by those who loan the DogBus to purchase the next vehicle. This project is 100% non-profit.

It is Kris’s sole aim to help save lives faster and more effectively. And …. here’s the adorable Kristyn Adams and Alan her  precious hound who is always by her side.

We seek generous people to give with open hearts. Also (and equally important) volunteers to help spread the word, assisting us get this off the ground as soon as possible – so that lives can saved in greater volume.

Great! Let’s get started with the van. Cost 14K then we as a collective of animal lovers can raise further funds for the fittings, crates and insurance etc. This means raising funds in 3 tiers as above displayed in links.

To donate for the van please click here. (Every penny counts.) You may donate anonymously if you prefer.

We respect your privacy and all contact is treated as confidential. PLEASE NOTE I DO NOT ACCEPT FUNDS FOR DOGBUS. ALL DONATIONS MUST GO DIRECTLY TO THE PROJECT.

We will endeavour to keep you updated with progress of The DogBus Project step by step. This is an opportunity for all to get involved and enjoy seeing images and news of the progress made for animal welfare up and down the UK via social media! Stay close – stay tuned!

If you are in a good financial position please dig deep. Do something wonderful for the animals. This is primarily for dogs but without exception the bus can hold crates for cats, smaller critters and used as space for small breeds too. The possibilities are limitless.

I am really excited about this. I too will be a volunteer. I will drive the DogBus and help Kris all I can in my spare time. Thank you so much in advance. Kindness really does make our lives more worthwhile. There’s nothing more rewarding than reaching out and helping the less fortunate. Be a voice for the voiceless. I know we can ALL DO THIS. It may take time but there is a goal, an objective. Lives to be saved. Please do help. Spread the news. Rescues all over the UK are in desperate need of the DogBus. This is a NON-PROFIT venture. You have peace of mind knowing that every single penny you donate goes to help dogs and other species like the ones in the photograph below of Kristyn’s own car!

Let’s join together and give them a Road to Freedom!

My Friendship Week so far – Time Out #diary

Sitting here with a crumpet and coffee. Off to take doggies out shortly. Catching up with my blog. Having a nice week. Foley hound, mentioned in previous blogs is doing well – recovered after an operation where he had 10 teeth removed. Quite amazing, really!

Yesterday, met up with Kris, my lovely friend who is pioneering a new venture to raise funds for a much needed #Dogbus that will transport animals on deathrow to rescues around the UK. Long over due. She is a brave and dedicated woman and I have a lot of time for her. I am also slightly in love with ‘Alan’ her little dog that is hyperactive. He never stops and with that comes enormous intelligence. He fascinates me. Going to put a video of him online soon. Such a spesh boy! Hello Alan!

2011-01-01 00.00.00-311.jpg

I’m travelling around for a little while catching up with people and tying up lose ends.

Been campaigning for various causes too, mostly animal related but also to save the National Health Service in the UK. It’s not solely due to loving the animal kingdom but also the people that go with it. I’ve made the loveliest friends with volunteer work.

One huge problem with the world is ego. When we have a task or target and turn to a self harming activity of an overzealous amount of greed to win. When we forget what it is we are all about in the first instance. We can become embroiled in a competitive spirit that has no final destination. I always feel sad when I see people tumble down this road. Vindictiveness and spite have no reward – other, than instigate an unnecessary amount of stress and damage to our well-being and those around us. So many people need help but it is for them to turn to healers and get the right support. Nobody can be fixed it has to start with making a conscious decision to break stagnant cycles. Like I always say, ‘it starts with self’.

There are some fabulous new comers to the creative sector out there struggling to find their platform due to money and influence taking priority over skill. It is true – money buys most things but there’s no price to peace of mind. I’ve watched certain high earners buy top prizes using mainstream papers and competitions that are flawed with corruption. It sickens me. They pay to win then take the trophy. It is not fair to those with more talent and less finance. This goes right across the board within media. It has to stop. I wish I could find a way to bring it the forefront but sadly, money is power. How tragic. Never fear shouting against propaganda if your arguments are founded and without bias.

I do not condone success. For I feel that if we are passionate about our crafts good things will come. This is measured by self satisfaction – not cheats and tricks. It is about enjoying the journey, feeling an inward sense of self worth and accomplishment that comes with authenticity and truth. You can’t bottle compassion or worth and it doesn’t cost a penny. It’s about the balance between receiving then giving back. And whilst many do this – the few that don’t – create such bad feeling amongst vulnerable third parties in our society.

It all starts at home, that is where our hearts are. We have to be comfortable and contented in our immediate surroundings. Harmony at home can be found in the simplest of things – the rest follows. Living alone is not a problem either. I’d rather be with ‘me’ than share with resentment.

When the weather is cold like this my thoughts for the homeless takes presidency over my sense of gratitude. I am thankful for a roof over my head. Most of us have a charitable shelter somewhere nearby. We can all do something to help. Actions speak louder than words. Even if that is donating a few pairs of socks or a sleeping bag. Not to mention animal rescues that are overburdened around the year. The smaller ones often having no media coverage whatsoever. They’re the ones that need us most. There’s plenty for us to find time for.

Moving on to brighter topics. Yesterday I made Kris (#Dogbus friend) pea and mint soup with coconut milk. She is a vegan so I carefully prepared something tasty for us both to enjoy. Putting recipe on later together with news of #Dogbus and how brilliant I want it to be for the animals.

Here’s Kris – She’s the most beautiful energy and spiritual depth. I’m really lucky. I know some lovely people. Good for the soul. It’s all that matters to me. Love – abundance and a sense of worth. Friendship is so important. None of us need be alone.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve looked at photo’s of me this week. I get up, shower, throw on clothes then out the door. I am getting my hair done tomorrow … I do abandon myself at times. I feel happy with who I am but I am not sure others should be. I am a scruffy bugger. Yet, I am clean, tidy and have nice manners. So, there you go!

Angel #GuestBlog by One of my Dearest Friends

Such a beautiful memoir of how one of my very closest friends Romana became an animal advocate. I would do anything for this woman.

RomanaB's avatarRomana Bhatti

My journey towards Todd’s Welfare Society is not one that I planned or even ever thought about.  A dog by the name of Angel is the reason that today I am part of this wonderful organisation and even though I have never met Angel or am ever likely to do so, I am eternally grateful to Angel for she has truly changed my life.

Sitting on YouTube one evening a particular video caught my eye and that was of Angel, a dog that had been deliberately starved.  As I watched her recovery the pain and guilt that I felt had no bounds.  This was a dog that had been starved by a foster carer who had ample of food stock in the house.  The wonderful rescue team ‘Rescue from the Hart’ helped Angel to recover and I am pleased to say that today Angel is healthy and in a loving forever home.
