First Trial – stunning aroma – Cedar Wood and Spearmint Wax Melts and Wax Pots by Tiffany Belle Harper

Well last night was exciting. 12 hour tea light and still scent left – could probably scent room for around 18 hours per melt and more for a pot as they are three times larger – possibly 36 – 54 hours scent per pot scent time – great result. Bubbled and popped for first hour or so (magical) as the oils entwined with the soya before settling and this morning the wax now set and solid after tea light went out hours ago, showed no signs of evaporation so the temperature was perfect. Fresh lovely smell. None toxic. A healing experience. Poor quality video taken from phone. Tiff. X

Therapeutic Melts and Pots – Cedar Wood and Spearmint by Tiffany Belle Harper

So today we pottered and I got to make a new line of wax melts, that’s a while over due. There’s been quite a lot going on … I have to be in the mood to craft and it’s usually when I should be doing 100 other things. I really want to throw myself into this new hobby but I do have other stuff going on, so it’s a bit of a juggling act.

I used a different soya wax today, it’s much softer and reached 90 degrees faster that I expected – got up to about 110 – way too high. I actually had to cool it down to 90 degrees quite quickly by adding more wax flakes to ensure it set right. Then I added a secret amount of cedar wood and spearmint. Spearmint can be over bearing if used to liberally. The colouring is plant based. Each little pot has a scattering of crystal shavings and a sprinkle of eco glitter, so when they begin to melt the magic stuff at the bottom of each little pot becomes visible.

Then I crafted some divine little melts using the rubber moulds. The texture was so soft I have actually tried the finished product as lip gloss and it works. Tastes fine and smells beautiful – soft pink with a shimmer of glitter. As all ingredients are 100% natural, I felt confident to do this, as there is only a small amount of essential oil in each melt. I will return to show you one of the little pots melting but first I do prefer to let them settle for a couple of weeks. To let the oils contrast to perfection with the soya. Feeling chuffed. Who wouldn’t be.

These really are for gifts and work but I would sell them in quantities of over 100 to business and personal, as then each batch is consistent and each melt would smell the same. Each batch is unique. If you want some fine. You would be welcome to retail them too. I can make various melts for different moods and ambience around the home and also to promote well being and mental state.

Essential Oils for Candles and Soaps – few useful tips by Tiffany Belle Harper

We can use essential oils in burners or misters. We can use them diluted for well-being and health. Each has their own unique smell and own properties. I believe it’sĀ  often what we are drawn to – at the moment I love sandal-wood or cedar-wood which connect us with the higher energies – also we get that floaty forest feeling. I always mist during the evening and when I have guests I mist lavender in the hallways to promote relaxation. Yet essential oils should not be taken lightly. They have powerful influence over mind, body and soul. So it’s worth doing a bit of research before using – in particular diluting. I developed a really sore nose. It was during the time I was crafting and burning a lot of handmade candles at once – I realised I was perhaps putting in too much scent or being exposed to a production line of constant highly concentrated substances? Although none of the products are tested on animals there are chemical traces in some of the aroma’s, as like perfume. So although I am fine burning the melts and they are just exquisite –Ā  I have decided to make a new range of soya wax, holistic candles using all natural ingredients to include fine grain sand from the beach, crushed crystals and tiny shells. It’s work in progress and they will be used around the hotels and as little pillow gifts.

I have been doing quite a lot of research so thought I would share this guide for those other aspiring candle maker and/or soap makers out there etc. It’s a lovely hobby. I would suggest using about 5% of essential oils to the melted wax. So if you melt 100 ml of wax use 5 ml drops to start with. Make only small amounts until you have found the right scent strength to work for you and your rooms. I start with burning the wax melts (with a burner and tealight) in common areas before putting in smaller rooms i.e. bedrooms. You can even use Olbas oil or Eucalyptus in the melts to help with breathing and irregular sleep patterns. I have friends who use only essential oils as perfume, blended with almond or coconut oil. Have a play – see what works. There’s an alchemist in all of us. There’s loads more oils than listed below but these tend to be the most popular and of course, you can mix and match. Remember to blend with Almond Oil or a natural carrier oil before applying to skin and never use concentrated for anything medicinal. Check contraindications for each one. Although for candles no dilution is necessary.

Another tip for crafters, remember to save glass jars and bottles for reuse for things such as jam or salad dressings. It really comes in useful. I love blackcurrant jam so have decided to make my own batch …. can I find blackcurrants … no! But I am saving jars for when they are in season. If anyone has any blackcurrants could I please have some!
